I love reuse!

I love to reuse in all different forms. For example, most of the furniture we have are from flea markets, craigslist, auctions or have inherited from friends or family.
Here are some pictures from our kitchen from our summer house (Sörmland, Sweden).

Old potato crates work as “kitchen drawers”. The kitchen cabinets we have restored from the previous owners restoration from the 60’s.
The countertops are made from old stock shelves that I have bought in a boutique in Stockholm that used them as display shelves. Micke and I sawed off the top and at one point used them as bookshelves in our apartment in Stockholm. When we sold the apartment we figured we would sell them (at an auction, of course), however then we thought of the genius idea of reusing them and extending their life!

This is how they looked as bookshelves.

The kitchen table is from the swedish craigslist (Blocket.se), chairs are from the previous owner of the house, the stool is from a flea market in Gotland.

There are many reasons why I love to reuse so much.

1. A big reason is that I simply like the style of antiques. I like worn and torn things that engulf a history.
2. It’s economical. Chances are that if you buy something that is already used, it is cheaper. If it is not cheaper, then chances are you will get your money back when you sell the furniture again – you bought it, so when the time comes for the piece to start a new life, someone else will probably want to buy it too.
3. The reused furniture replaces the production of a new one. No need to waste natural resources to make a brand new couch, there is already a couch available!
4. The premises of this cycle is that the reused stuff are good quality – otherwise it becomes trash. About 15 years ago when I worked at a swedish evening paper (Aftonbladet) as a reporter, I learned from a man that worked at Stiwex (makes dish brushes), that there is a type of dish brush that can be used for many years. However, most companies (maybe not Stiwex) don’t produce things in the top quality it has the potential to be in, because for one it costs more, and two, they want to constantly be selling things. I didn’t believe him at first, but I gave it a try and bought a box of good quality dish brushes. And I still use these dishbrushes today! Have one in New York too.
Proof!

(When they get dirty, we just place them in the dish washer and they’re good as new!)

That’s when I get overjoyed when someone decides to make something in good quality! A girl named Linda (whom I’ve never met) emailed me because she liked Bag-All and told me about her new brand of jeans. Ossoami www.ossoami.com
Linda produces durable jeans for kids. They are made of strengthening material, the same as used in uniforms and work clothes,  on the knees.
My kids, especially Cappi, have holes in e v e r y pair of jeans!
I swear, I have not recieved one penny to recommend Linda’s jeans! I just think that we should support good things. So please help launch Linda’s business! 40 dollars for a pair of jeans, and they’re super cute!
